I am 26 years old. Married for almost 8 years & been together for almost 10 yrs. We have 2 hyper boys 5 (almost 6 yrs old) & 1 1/2 year old.
I haven't been over weight my whole life. I had some cushin on me when I was young, but not too bad. By age 14 I was 160lbs. That's when I started my 1st diet. Towards the end of freshmen year I did a very low calorie diet. We're talking about soooo low that it was very unhealthy! I didn't know that then. Now I know & It was around a 500 calorie diet (sometimes a little more). Some days I went to bed early just so I didn't think about eating. I did this religiously for 2 months. I lost 30 lbs. Brought me down to 130. I was happy w/that weight. I went back eatting regularly. During this age I did walk A LOT, so I never really gained back any weight.
At age 18 I got married. I started gaining weight. I figured it was just because I was married and I heard of people gaining weight after they got married. Well, with in a couple months I gained A LOT! I was eating the same as before and I still had gained. I gained about 40-50 lbs in a couple months. At this time my husband and I were trying to conceive (TTC). Around 19 years old I still haven't gotten pregnant. We went to a fertility doctor; Doctor Heth at Makalapa Clinic (Pearl Harbor). He is awesome! Listens to you and trys everything. He doesn't delay things. He did a semen test on my hubs and blood work on me. We found out nothing is wrong w/hubs, but I have PCOS.
What is polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)?
Polycystic (pah-lee-SIS-tik) ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a health problem that can affect a woman's:
•Menstrual cycle
•Ability to have children
•Hormones
•Heart
•Blood vessels
•Appearance
With PCOS, women typically have:
•High levels of androgens (AN-druh-junz). These are sometimes called male hormones, though females also make them.
•Missed or irregular periods (monthly bleeding)
•Many small cysts (sists) (fluid-filled sacs) in their ovaries

One of the main symptoms of PCOS is weight gain or obesity, usually with extra weight around the waist.
Metformin affects the way insulin controls blood glucose (sugar) and lowers testosterone production. It may help ovulation to return. Recent research has shown metformin to have other positive effects, such as decreased body mass and improved cholesterol levels. In part usually helps with PCOS.
Some research has shown that bariatric (weight loss) surgery may be effective in resolving PCOS in morbidly obese women. Morbid obesity means having a BMI of more than 40, or a BMI of 35 to 40 with an obesity-related disease. One reason I choose WLS.
My BMI is 43 and I have nothing wrong w/me YET! This is my highest weight to date. Because of my PCOS I have a high risk for getting diabetes and everything else. I want to nip it in the butt now. I don't want to gain anymore weight. I know I can do diets; lose weight and then usually end up gaining it back.. maybe even more. It's a yo-yo cycle. That's how PCOS is..Diet-lose weight- gain back- gain-more- etc. I need a life change. I know WLS will help me A LOT!
